Looking for a fun night out with a creative twist? Join us at the Bentway Studio (facing Canoe Landing Park) on Wednesday evenings for weekly Drawing Socials. No previous drawing experience? No problem! Our artist facilitators will help you try something new, and meet your neighbours, while learning drawing techniques.
Come with friends to the Bentway Studio on Wednesday evenings for weekly hands-on drawing activities led by local artist collective, Noble Space. These Social nights will centre connection and community-building through creative prompts inspired by our summer exhibition, Softer City. Try something new and meet your neighbours! No previous drawing experience is required.
While you are there, check out The Bentway Book Cart, a pop-up reference library of reading materials, educational resources and activities inspired by Softer City and curated by community collaborators, Toronto Public Library: Fort York, Art Metropole, and Toronto Foundation.
It’s sure to be a fun evening with the chance to meet new people and learn a creative skill. This session will be facilitated by Josh Rosen.
This week’s session will focus on cartooning and, specifically, designing characters. We often infer a lot about a person based on how they look, and the same is true for fictional characters in movies, television, comics or video games. But how do these fictional characters communicate through their design? And what goes into making characters that really stand out? Join professional comic book artist Josh Rosen as he shares character design techniques used in comics and animation, and engage in fun drawing exercises around inventing characters of our own.
What to expect:
- All skills levels welcome – no experience necessary.
- Youth under age 16 must be accompanied by a caregiver.
- All drawing materials will be provided.
- Please arrive for the start of the workshop.
