BEATS + SKATES is a collective of Toronto roller skaters, beat makers and street artists dedicated to using collaborative art-making approaches as relational storytelling. We organize DIY community activations that foster relationships between artists across disciplines.
Every year, Enna Kim @fongkikid (Korean-Canadian muralist-roller skater, VJ and creative director) hosts the BEATS + SKATES residency that celebrates the tenets of hip hop through movement arts, music and visual culture. Enna formed the BEATS + SKATES Collective as a response to the lack of programming, resources and venues for cross-disciplinary art making, dance and music production. Through her creative practice, she cultivates meaningful relationships and programming across Toronto.
