Celeste is an artistic duo comprised by María Fernanda Camarena and Gabriel Rosas Alemán. María Fernanda studied Visual Arts at the University of Guadalajara, while Gabriel earned his Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts at ENPEG La Esmeralda in Mexico City and a Diploma in Fine Arts from HBK Braunschweig in Germany. Prior to the formation of the duo in 2020, Maria Fernanda and Gabriel had developed individual and professional projects within the art field for nearly 10 years. Celeste’s inaugural exhibition took place at the Museo de Arte de Zapopan (MAZ), Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2020.
Naming the duo Celeste is a way of striking a balance between the visible and the invisible. This balance is created by two distinct presences. On one side, their work is defined by a palette of warm colors, while the cool color spectrum is evoked through the name of Celeste. Celeste it also refers to all the aspects of the celestial dome, recurring elements in their pieces.
By integrating multiple media and disciplines, Celeste expands its artistic practice through a constant negotiation involving other collaborators and audiences. Their projects transform the spaces they inhabit into an environment that reflects daily life, creating ephemeral moments of closeness and familiarity.
Among their notable exhibitions and projects are collaborations with the Museo Jumex in Mexico, The Royal Society of Sculptors in London, The Contemporary Austin in Texas, the Museo Amparo in Puebla, The Shepherd Art Center in Detroit, Pangée Pangée in Montreal, and Canopy Collections in London. Their upcoming projects include a public commission at The Bentway in Toronto and a solo exhibition at Rebecca Camacho Presents in San Francisco.
