La-Vane Kelly is an Afro-Canadian spoken word artist, freelance writer, visual artist and workshop facilitator who centres BIPOC communities. Mostly self-taught, he often draws inspiration from his own experiences, living and interacting with marginalized groups of people.
La-Vane believes in the power of words as a tool for healing, community engagement, and activism. He is the creator of Dead Silence: Poetry, an online forum dedicated to original works of poetry and prose where members may read works of art and/or publish their own. His dream is to create a platform for artists of all levels to publish their works and build the confidence to pursue their writing careers and visual arts interests.
He is currently working with acrylic paint as a pouring medium on canvas and developing a visual arts/spoken word showcase and auction.
