Sky Mirage

Aaron Jones’ Sky Mirage is an inflatable airborne mirror that offers viewers  a space in the sky to see themselves and each other, creating an entry point for explorations about floating, inflation, and aviation.

Sky Mirage draws inspiration from American artist Chris Burden’s last work, Ode to Santos Dumont, a monumental performance sculpture that references Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont’s functional airship, commonly known as a blimp, which first took flight in the 20th century.

Sky Mirage pays tribute to the wonders of the inflatable and sparks interest in floating, inflation, and aviation. The work also offers a new vantage point on ourselves and our connection to others. This object of self-reflection challenges the conventional notion of looking down on others and instead offers a unique space for us to gather together, reflected collectively in a space in the sky. In this new work, Jones creates a sky in which we can see each other.
