Attend the Under Gardiner Public Realm Plan Showcase

August 23, 2023

Explore how the spaces under the Expressway can better serve Toronto as we present the recommendations of the Under Gardiner Public Realm Plan for the first time on September 26.

Come explore the potential of the space under the Gardiner! For the past two years, we’ve been speaking with local residents, businesses, civic leaders, and partners to explore: How can the spaces under the Gardiner Expressway better serve our city?

As the Under Gardiner Public Realm Plan enters its final phase of development, we are pleased to share the report’s recommendations in this public Showcase on September 26, 2023

In partnership with the City of Toronto, we will present key findings, proposed outcomes, and share details from the two-year engagement process that informed the Plan. The Showcase will ground the report’s long-range, ambitious recommendations in real-life examples, including recently completed public space projects and pilots along the corridor.

The event begins with an optional walking tour under the Gardiner, allowing community members to explore the space’s potential. Tour stops include Waterfront ReConnect at York Street, Rees Park, Spadina Islands, and Staging Grounds. Then, join us for a lively panel discussion with civic and design leaders from across the city. Hear from Lauren Abrahams of Public Work, Matthew Hickey of Two Row Architect, Tennesha Joseph of 8 80 Cities, and Lanrick Bennett, Toronto’s first Bicycle Mayor, as they explore the necessary conditions for a holistic and supportive public realm and identify the actions to get there. Moderated by Ilana Altman of The Bentway. We are thrilled to invite you to see the final report as we share our process, findings, and recommendations!
