The Bentway Conservancy is pleased to announce our second annual Artist Residency program. The 2020 artist residency will focus on The Bentway’s identity as a public space and “living lab” that supports both cultural engagement and physical activity. From free yoga and ice skating, to art installations and public performances, The Bentway is a space where art and recreation meet in ever-evolving ways.

The Bentway will support one self-directed on-site residency focused on advancing creative research and experimentation around the specified project theme of arts and recreation. The Bentway’s 2020 Spring/Summer season, Playing in Public, explores the history of recreation and its role in shaping decisions about public space. Through a series of interdisciplinary, intergenerational and participatory programs, The Bentway – a productive site that has given way to arts, culture and recreation — will be converted into a giant playground for communities that are eager to interact with the city in new and unexpected ways. The successful participant/s will be invited to respond and expand on this theme.
