Thank you, Toronto: A Skate Trail Send-Off

February 12, 2021

The 2020/2021 winter skate season has officially come to an end. Although COVID-19 made this season particularly unique, we were pleased to be able to welcome so many of our neighbours and community members to The Bentway Skate Trail.

We instituted a number of new health and safety practices and policies, including capacity limits, pre-registration, deep cleans between every time-slot, physical distancing, and mask-wearing. These new policies kept everyone in attendance – our neighbours, guests, and staff – as safe and healthy as possible.

We also recognized the disproportionate impact that winter during COVID-19 would have on the most vulnerable members of our community. With generous donations from skaters, as well as the Waterfront BIA and the Liberty Village BIA, we were able to partner with Fred Victor to distribute 50 Winter Care Kits for community members experiencing homelessness and poverty. Thanks to the kindness of so many of you, we were able to raise over $4000 to provide seasonal support items, including gloves, hats, hand warmers, masks, hand sanitizer, and more. So, thank you – truly – from all of us.

We know that being able to get outside and exercise continues to be of utmost importance for the physical and mental well-being of our community, which is why the site remains open for walking, running, cycling, or other activities. Please continue to wear a face covering, wash your hands regularly and practice safe physical distancing when on site.

We have begun work on a Spring/Summer season that we cannot wait to share and hope to see you on the trail again soon!
