Whether you’re trying roller skating for the first time or have moves to show off, all are welcome to meet us under the Gardiner for the launch of our roller skate and equipment rental program, and the return of our legendary Roller Skate Party, weekly Roller Skate Lessons, all while enjoying summer in the city and making memorable moments on our iconic 220m figure-eight skate trail.

You must present a valid government-issued ID and sign a waiver to rent skates. Those under the age of 18 and/or those without a valid government issued ID will not be able to rent skates without their parent or legal guardian present.
- Rentals and concessions are cashless, we are only able to accept debit or credit cards.
- Skate at your own risk.
- Skate Rentals $18 (includes helmet & pads), sizing first come first served.
- We offer kids and adult skate, pads and helmet rentals on a first-come, first-serve basis. The size range we carry is: kids/youth size 12J-2J, 3J-6J, and 3J-5J, and adult size 6-13. Socks must be worn in rental skates.
- Rentals are for a maximum 1-hour period.
- There are no lockers on The Bentway site. Please keep your valuables with you.

Skate Rental and Concession Stand
What size skates do you carry?
We offer kids and adult skate, pads and helmet rentals on a first-come, first-serve basis. The size range we carry is: kids/youth size 12J-2J, 3J-6J, and 3J-5J, and adult size 6-13.
Can I return skates after operating hours?
No. Skates are rented for a maximum 1-hour period and must be returned to the Skate Rental Container before the rental period end.
Why do I have to wear socks when I rent skates?
All our rented skates are available to all members of the public. We require all skaters to wear socks when renting our skates. Socks are available for sale at our Concession Stand for $4.50 per pair.
What methods of payment do you accept?
Our skate rentals and concessions stand are cashless. We are only able to accept debit or credit cards.
Skate Trail Questions
Do I need to make a reservation to skate?
Skating is free and does not require reservations. Skates and equipment can be rented for a small fee on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Do I have to wear a helmet while I skate?
It is highly recommended that all skaters, especially those aged 6 and under, wear a helmet approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) while skating on the trail.
Can people under age 18 use the Skate Trail?
All ages are welcome, but there are a few rules:
- Children aged 10 and under must be actively supervised by a responsible person aged 16 or older at all times.
- It is highly recommended that all skaters, especially those aged 6 and under, wear a helmet approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) while skating on the trail.
- Those under the age of 18 and/or those without a valid government issued ID will not be able to rent skates without their parent or legal guardian present.
Youth aged 11-17 who have their own equipment are able to use the Skate Trail without a guardian present; a guardian is only required to be present for skate rentals and/or to supervise children 10 and under.
Can I bring my own skates?
Yes! Our Skate Trail is free to use, and you are welcome to bring your own skates.
It is highly recommended that all skaters, especially those aged 6 and under, wear a helmet approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) while on the trail.
Will the Skate Trail be busy?
We’re unable to definitively say how busy the Skate Trail will be as numbers vary by day and time. Typically, the Skate Trail is busiest on weekends and evenings.

Do you have lockers?
Unfortunately, we do not have lockers on site.
Where can I put my belongings?
It is best to pack light and keep your personal belongings with you at all times. Some people bring a small backpack to place their shoes in and skate with it. Others leave their belongings under seats, but please note that The Bentway is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. Be sure to keep valuables on your person.
Please do not leave belongings on the seats in the heating area, so as to make room for other skaters.
Do you have a lost and found?
If you think you lost something at The Bentway, please email [email protected] and include the date you were there and a description of the lost item. Please note that The Bentway is not responsible for lost and found items, but we will do our best to help. Any high-value items that are turned in to our staff (i.e. cell phones, IDs) will be held at our office for a maximum of 30 days.
Are there public washrooms available?
Public washrooms are available on site. Washrooms are open during skating operating hours.
