As Toronto wrestles with important questions about the Expressway and its future, The Bentway invites the city to dive “beyond the concrete” and explore the nature of the Gardiner. Visitors will discover a thriving urban ecosystem beneath the highway, where human-made infrastructure intertwines with resilient wildlife, growing in spite of, and because of, the concrete.
The Bentway is hosting a public performance, WOODS, during our upcoming 2023 spring/summer season. Led by Brazilian choreographer Clarice Lima, alongside a team of female artists from around the world, this performance is an artistic call for environmental awareness that reflects on the fragility of the human body and global deforestation.
Reporting to the Events Supervisor and working in close collaboration with the on-site facilities staff, the Events Assistant is an integral member of The Bentway team, responsible for supporting event rentals across all Bentway sites, building strong relationships with community partners, and helping to meet earned revenue targets.
The Bentway has teamed up with Toronto Dance Theatre on our 2023 Artist Residency, with a focus on dance in public space. We selected three artists who focus on dance, movement, and/or embodied practice to participate in an open-ended and research-based project that contributes to re-imagining the opportunities of urban spaces.
The Bentway is proud to welcome this year’s Public Space Fellows, Celeste Meledath (she/her) and Ella Hough (she/her).
